THE PARK SLOPE MIKVAH
In 2007, the orthodox community of Park Slope purchased an empty lot of 25 ft by 50 on 15th Street, in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn.
DOARC was hired to design a new building for the community to include a very ambitious program, distributed on three floors. The main purpose of the building was to host multiple ritual baths for the men and women of the congregation.
In addition, there would be common rooms to serve as a synagogue and daycare center, and rooms for guests to stay over.
In the traditional ritual, the used in the bathing pools must be rainwater collected by the roof. Therefore, some very unique plumbing solutions were adopted.
When attending, privacy is a must. For this reason, also the circulation, with particular attention to people entering and exiting, demanded very creative solutions. The chic, zen-like spaces are warm and inviting, feature all the qualities of a luxury spa while serving a community purpose.
